You’re absolutely right that short vowel sounds are typically introduced first in early phonics learning. We prioritize on each letter's primary sound throughout the book; for example, when readers tap the alphabet letters and play the games, the audio only focuses on the primary sound.
For letters that have multiple sounds, we do include a small number of words that reflect secondary sounds, such as long vowels. The goal there is to gently introduce the idea that letters can make different sounds, while still keeping the main emphasis on the primary sound.
The page text for e, o, u are respectively 'enormous elephant collecting eggs', 'orderly octopus juggling oranges', and 'unicorn under an umbrella'.
The book was co-created with Hannah Cockayne, an experienced children’s book author who is also a kindergarten teacher. It’s designed to be a fun and interactive introduction to ABCs, with early phonics exposure.
